Getting to know someone in this day and age of hiding behind out screens can pose a unique challenge. In many ways, the art of conversation seems to be dying, and the sad consequence of that is people are feeling more isolated and disconnected than ever before.
Whether it’s a guy you like, a guy you’re dating, co-workers, or your friends — how much depth of connection exists in your relationships? How well do you really know the people in your life, including those closest to you?
A lot of people feel awkward or nervous in conversations, especially a conversation with someone they’re trying to impress. You end up talking about nonsense and no real connection is formed.
And here is what most people forget. Conversations aren’t meant to impress someone, they are meant to discover someone.

Things to keep in mind
Don’t ask a question for the sake of asking an interesting question- ask to truly discover what the other person is about. The biggest mistake people make these days is fixating on the outcome they want … and what it will mean if things don’t turn out in their favor. This is what leads to the heartbreak and disappointments.
Dating isn’t a means to validate yourself or fill your self-esteem tank. The purpose of dating is to discover how compatible you are with another person, that’s it! Sometime you’ll realize it isn’t a match, sometimes both of you will see it, and sometimes only he will realize it and that’s usually the hardest for women to cope with.

This isn’t just about dating. The same applies to job interviews or anything in life. When you go in for an interview desperate to get the job, then there is was too much attached to the outcome. If you don’t get it, you’re a failure, you’re worthless. So you go in with all these hopes and expectations, you need this job. You don’t even care if it’s an actual match for you and your skills, you have to have it. Then you don’t get it and you’re devastated. This is the wrong approach. Instead, you need to go in with an attitude of, “This job sounds like a great fit for me, I can’t wait to find out more about it at the interview” …. And then the interview is a chance to see if this is an actual fit. It’s not a desperate quest to prove your worthy of this job.
Desperation kills attraction and it kills your chances of landing that dream job and getting almost anything you want in life. It’s just unattractive, Think about desperate people you’ve known in life. You weren’t drawn to them, you didn’t want more of them … you wanted to get away from them!
Being good at conversation and knowing the right things to say isn’t just about following a script, it’s about coming from the right place internally. That is a place of confidence and curiosity, not insecurity and neediness. Conversation is meant to be enjoyable, not nerve-wracking and painful.
Whether it’s a guy you’re dating, a job you want, or just mingling at a networking event, take the pressure off and see it as an opportunity to connect, and not an opportunity to prove your worth.
The second you seeks to prove anything, you immediately radiate a desperate vibe that is off-putting.
Give Him Space To Answer And Just Listen:
When you have some idea of what you want a man to reveal to you, you might be disappointed when he does not say what you want him to say. But imagine how horrible this would feel to him if he knew that his responses disappointed you?
Don’t have expectations; simply be present in the moment.
You must be a good listener:
Remember this: If you want someone to open up to you, you must be a good listener.
Being a good listener is actually quite easy. It’s not so much about what you do, but rather, what you don’t do:
A good listener doesn’t:
- Have expectations of what you want them to say
- Get upset about things they say
- Make what they’re saying about you
- Judge, attack or argue with what they’re saying
- Try to use “being a good listener” as a way to impress them
So what do you do to be a good listener?
All it takes to be a good listener is to give them space to say whatever they want to say (or not say). And as they speak, you simply have your complete attention on what they’re saying.
You’re not caught up in your mind thinking about what you want to say next or about what they might be thinking about you.
You’re not thinking about something else or distracted while they’re talking. You’re not eager for them to say something that makes you feel good.
You’re not caught up in your mind-chatter. You have your complete attention on them, giving them space, without your mind activity adding pressure to the situation.
You’re giving them your attention without distraction, judgment or expectation.
When you do this, they will feel like it’s safe to open up to you and they’ll feel that you will truly hear what they’re saying.
The truth is, people want to open up and share with other people, but only when they feel the other person is really listening to what they have to say.
When you give someone your full attention and space to speak, it can be incredibly healing for them and create an extremely powerful bond between you and them.
And the best part is, you don’t have to do anything – just give someone your complete attention and openness!
In this modern day of distraction, being a great listener is also incredibly rare.
When you can really listen to them with your full attention and really give them space to be as they are, don’t be surprised if they start to feel a very deep connection to you like they’ve never experienced before.
