If you tell someone ttyl and they say we’ll talk next week. Do you have to say ok or is implied they’ll text you next week.

If you say we’ll catch up soon and the respondent says we’ll talk this week and you leave it alone and let him end the conversation should you wait for him to text you next week or can you initiate or does it not matter?

I find this question a bit odd. I would generally take it to mean the person expects we will catch up in a few days, but wouldn’t take it as a promise.

However like Raven says, context is needed. Where I was brought up in the North of England, “later” implied the same day, and in that environment it could mean “I don’t want to talk to you later (today), I want to leave it a few days because you’re calling me too much”. Alternatively it could be a very positive statement. In a place where “later” could mean in a few days they could be agreeing with you that it would be lovely to catch up again next week.

Yea he definitely wants to talk to me. We just don’t talk every day. So yea I know I’ll talk to him again.

Tell us why you are asking this question. What is the situation or argument that prompted you to ask this? What do you need to solve?
