I too wonder if he is using this as an excuse-especially since you hint at other issues with his character. If he wanted to stay with you and still liked the kid idea-your kids will likely have grandkids sometime that the both of you could enjoy. Then he could have the “fun” side of parenting but not be responsible all of the time. You two need to discuss all the angles and then decide to stay or go.
