I like my boyfriend but I feel like he tries too hard to be TOUGH

This is something that has been bothering me to an extent but I’ve never really brought it up with him or anyone else. My bf and I are 21, and overall I do like him a lot but sometimes I feel really cringed out by his behavior but I try to ignore it because he treats me so well and I know he loves me.

When we’re alone I feel like I’m with my best friend. He’s the sweetest and he still shares the same childlike personality as me doing silly stuff like playing with my stuffed animals. But he still is the typical college, beer pong bro and sometimes I feel like he’s not what I’m interested in romantically. Like when he’s with friends or anyone in general really, he would start acting hard saying things like “yeah cus I’m not a p***y” or just generally acting like he’s a tough guy. He also only wears designer brands, which is fine since he can afford it and buys them with his own money but he announces it too. Like when he met my friend, he was going on and on about how he only wears designer. I think it’s fine to wear it, but I wish he could be a bit more humble. Especially when I am not as well off as he is and I’m fine with buying clothes from regular stores or even thrift shops.

I can’t help but compare him to this guy who I consider my first love who was a lot different. He had his issues, but he was more reserved and you could tell how strong he was inside and out without him having to say it. Idk, I feel like I’m nitpicking but sometimes I can’t help but see my boyfriend as a little kid trying too hard to be a man and it bugs the hell out of me.
