My abusive ex-boyfriend, who unfortunately lives right across the hall from me, just broke up with me two days ago. To be honest I wanted this relationship to end ever since I saw the signs that I was in an abusive relationship. When he started to call me fat, tell me what I should and shouldn’t eat, control who I should be friends with, yell at me whenever he got angry, never listen to what I had to say, gaslight me and overall just trying to manipulate me. But I was too scared to try and break things off with him because I was scared of his violent side and I know that he is a very vindictive person and was worried that he might try and do something against me, so when he decided to break things up with me because according to him ”if he cannot change me, then it means I’m no good for him’ part of me was relieved, but now I’m struggling because I have to see him everyday.

How do you move on from someone that lives in the same building as you? And how can you get over an abusive relationship?

I’m sorry you’re going through this. If you see him in the building, just treat him like you would any other neighbor. Be civil, say hi if you want, and go about your business. Spend time focusing on things and people that bring you joy. Day by day, time will heal.
